Marcus, IA – The investor – owned motel, the Marcus Hometown Guesthouse, opened it doors July 28, 2008. This endeavor cost an estimated $880,000 and boasts 16 theme-inspired, friendly rooms. “There was a need and a desire to do jus this. The town of Marcus has had extremely good luck of late with investors,” said Mayor Darrell Downs.

Across from the motel, which is situated conveniently on Iowa Highway 3, is the Marcus Junction truck stop/restaurant. Local investors brought it to life in 2006. Little Sioux Corn Processors ethanol plant is also an investor – owned facility. It produces 92 million gallons of ethanol and is one of the most profitable ventures of its kind in Iowa.

Shares in the Guesthouse were offered to investors for $500 each, with a minimum purchase of two per investor. About 130 investors raised $350,000 this way and can expect about a 9.2% return on their investment. Local banks also financed part of the project, which was built on city-owned property. Room for expansion is available, should the opportunity or need ever arise.

Marcus is always on the move. Soon, Soy Energy, LLC, a biodiesel plant, will resume construction. This project is also investor-owned and another shining star for Marcus and Cherokee County, Iowa.
