Governor Chet Culver recently announced 21 new awards approved by the state’s Renewable Fuels Infrastructure Board totaling $777,600 to assist Iowa retailers to install pumps for E-85 ethanol and biodiesel fuel, terminals installing biodiesel blending equipment, and tank wagons with dedicated compartments for E-85 and biodiesel for farm delivery.
Among the recipients were Oak Street Station and Oak Street Station LLC, Inwood, and Popkes Car Care Inc., Rock Rapids.
“I believe with gas approaching $4 a gallon and petroleum at record prices, now is the right time to reaffirm our common commitment to clean, renewable fuels,” said Culver. “Increased access to E-85 and biodiesel is good for Iowa consumers, good for the environment, and good for Iowa farmers.”
Iowa Department of Economic Development director Michael Tramontina said, “Our continued expansion of E-85 ethanol and biodiesel access demonstrates Iowa’s commitment to greater use of renewable energy. We fully expect these grants to improve availability and promote more robust and alternative fuel options for Iowa consumers.”
Over a three-year period, $13 million in financial incentives will be allocated by the Renewable Fuels Infrastructure Board to expand consumer access to renewable fuels.
